As custom foam insert specialists, we’ve had many inquiries over the 12+ years of business.Â
One unique customer, Anika, created Glowborne, a glow-in-the-dark heritage chess set that she launched on Kickstarter. She came to us a needed a solution to both protect the figurines as well as serve as an eye-catching display.Â
We came up with a unique solution that presented and protected her work seamlessly. That’s when we realised that our foam can be used to display and protect crafts, collectables, and handmade items.
The Challenge of Protecting Unique Creations
Craft makers and collectors alike struggle with one common issue. They’re unable to find off-the-shelf packaging to safeguard and present their creations/collections.Â
When using such packaging, there’s a lot of risk. Movement and vibrations can ruin the delicate materials, break them, etc., meaning countless hours of work can be destroyed simply for having a rough delivery or an ill-fitting box.Â
That’s it’s recommended to switch to bespoke foam packaging. These are specially designed for whatever you’re displaying or transporting, ensuring that it snugly fits inside a container and doesn’t move or get damaged.Â
Why Bespoke Foam Packaging Works
Foam for crafts, collectables, or handmade items can greatly benefit anyone transporting or displaying delicate goods.Â
Trailored Fit
Each custom foam insert is cut with precision to the exact dimensions of your piece. That means no rattling or shifting. Therefore, it doesn’t matter if it’s a spiky ceramic sculpture or an odd-shaped figurine; the foam hugs it securely on all sides.
Maximum Protection
High-quality foam absorbs shock and vibration during transit, acting as a cushion against drops and knocks. Even if a package experiences the bumps of shipping, the items inside remain safe and secure.Â
Professional Presentation
Beyond protection, foam insets make your work appear professional. Inserts can be colour-matched, cleanly cut, and even engraved or labelled, turning a simple case into a gorgeous display.Â
Versatility
Protective foam for collectables, crafts, etc., can be made as a one-off or a batch of a hundred or more. This allows everyone, from individual collectors and craftmakers to small businesses and large corporations, to use foam to protect and present their valuables.Â
The Glowborne project is a perfect example of custom foam inserts. Each chess piece had a unique shape and delicate finish, so it needed to be protected during transportation and presented well upon opening.Â
We started by measuring every figurine and designed a foam insert with individual cut-outs for all 32 pieces. The foam we used was a balance of softness and firmness. This avoided scratching the hand-painted surfaces yet held them firmly in place.Â
The result was a uniquely-made chess set that could be shipped to Kickstarter backers or displayed at an exhibition with equal confidence. Our foam not only prevented it from breaking during transit but also presented the pieces well during unwrapping.Â
Applications Beyond Chess
Custom foam inserts aren’t just for handmade items, like the chess pieces mentioned above; they can be used for all types of individuals.Â
- Arists & Makers: If you create handmade ceramics, glassware, jewellery, woodwork, or sculptures, custom foam can be used to ensure they’re protected during transportation.Â
